Ms. Katie Carson

Hi! My name is Katie Carson and this is my second year working as an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at Jie Ming. I have been teaching ELL in St. Paul for the past 8 years, and before that have experience teaching English as a foreign language in Sichuan, China. I love working with elementary-age students because they have so much excitement about learning. I try to be a positive, inclusive, and welcoming role model to all my language learners, including students who have just begun learning English for the first time and others who have been learning English since a young age. I do my best to tailor my instruction to support diverse student needs. This year, I am working with English Learners (ELs) mostly in 1st grade, and a few groups of students in grades 2-5 as well.

In my free time, I enjoy studying Chinese, playing the piano, and visiting friends and family. Last summer, I felt so fortunate to spend a month in Taiwan studying Chinese and traveling. Most summers, I spend a lot of time at home gardening, and in the winter I like to go snowboarding or skiing when I have the chance. At home, I live with my charming husband, Trent, and our very spoiled, fluffy little dog named Woody.

If you have any questions about our Multilingual Learner (MLL) program or services here at Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I would love to get to know more about my students, their families, and their goals, and am happy to tell you about what we are working on in our ELL instructional groups!
